When I open my Lonely Planet guidebook to see what to visit in Oita I see 8 pages. Out of these pages 0 pages are about Oita City (where we live). It is all about Beppu, which is about 20 minutes away by train. Beppu is famous for its Onsen (hot springs). And now I now why. Because there is nothing else to see in Beppu. It is even more boring and uglier than Oita City. How smart of us to go to Beppu without visiting any Onsen! Haha, next time we will go to the Onsen straight away! We just went into a depratment store (Tokiwa, which we also have in Oita) and ate Udon (the same chain is also located in Oita).
